9:00-9:15              Welcoming Remarks: How Diversity Promotes Innovation - Dr. Janet Gullickson

9:15-9:55              Opening Activity: How Cultural Orientations Shape Interactions - Dr. Valeriana Colón
Participants will evaluate their own cultural profile and situate it within their various cultural environments, as well as, learn strategies to negotiate conflicting orientations and promote an atmosphere of inclusion.

10:00-12:00        Keynote Address: Importance of Diversity in Higher Education - Michael Bonner
Michael Bonner will address 3 practical and critical concepts that will help staff think, engage, and motivate diverse students in a more impactful way.  Michael is a nationally recognized speaker and has been featured on the Ellen Show and NBC Nightly News.

1:00-3:00              3 Interactive Sessions (1:00-1:38 pm; 1:41-2:19 pm; 2:22-3:00 pm)
Each 38 min interactive session is taught using an active and collaborative teaching method, called Problem Based Learning.  Participants will work through the steps of problem solving to examine complex social issues and determine practical means to promote diversity and inclusion at GCC.

Pushy or Assertive: How do traditional concepts of gender roles influence perceptions & aspirations? - Dr. Tiffany Ray
This session explores the influence of gender roles on the disproportionate representation of women in STEM fields and how to promote participation     

Go RedSkins: What is cultural appropriation and how can it be offensive? - Kierra Scruggs
Participants will examine the complexities and opportunities for exploitation of various cultural groups by more dominant cultures.    

A Post 9/11 World: How can issues surrounding religion be discussed? - Sandra Lovell
In this session participants will generate strategies to support classes in navigating religious freedom in education and gaining an appreciation for the religious practices of others.

Sie, Hir, Zie, Zir: What are gender neutral pronouns and how are they used? - Laurie Daigle & Brittany Harper
This session supports the development and use of gender neutral pronouns- using inclusive language to create a safe and welcoming environment.                      

The Sitter is Waiting: How can the needs of single parents be balanced with academic demands? - Marie Hawley
This session explores the challenges faced by single parents pursuing higher education and ways of creating an inclusive and supportive environment.  

Sorry Not Sorry: What do Millennials demand from education? - Taylor Landrie
Participants will explore how to speak and teach across generations to meet the needs of students.               

Say That to My Face: What is appropriate etiquette when interacting with people with disabilities? - Win Stevens
This session explores etiquette guidelines for interacting with people with disabilities.                                                                       

Hidden Power Dynamics: How does privilege & agency play out in the classroom? - Sharon Williams
In the session participants will explore how privilege can shape agency- limiting choice and access.

1:00-3:00*           Safe Zone: How do sexuality and gender influence everyday experiences? -  Cheryl Huff, Mark Haines, Denise Talley *Safe Zone has a 38 minute introductory session and a full 2 hour session.
This two hour activity-filled session helps participants develop a deeper familiarity and comfort with LGBTQ+ vocabulary and inclusive practices to be better allies.
