The Americans with Disability Act (ADA) isn’t just about ramps and handicapped accessible restrooms or even learning accommodations. For teaching faculty, the ADA addresses instructional material design and course delivery issues. This nitty-gritty, nuts and bolts workshop will include information to aid you in building an ADA compliant course shell in Canvas. Matters to be covered include demonstrating how a disabled person experiences an inaccessible course, identifying students who might need accommodations, and best practices in designing accessible instructional content. Attendees are urged to bring laptops for hands-on help preparing or updating ADA-compliant content.
Mimi Leonard, Associate Professor, Developmental English came to Wytheville Community College in 2002 after working with adult literacy, GED, and English as a Second Language students. Her master’s degree is in Adult Education: Curriculum Design, and her doctoral degree concentration was Professional Writing and New Media.
