Each year, outstanding faculty, staff, and administrators are recognized for their contributions to the system.
Awards range from individual recognition for teaching and learning contributions, to team awards for groups at colleges working together to advance the VCCS mission. The VCCS proudly acknowleges teaching excellence in a variety of ways.

Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE)
The Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) acknowledges one teaching faculty member annually who distinctly represents the teaching excellence found at VCCS college(s). The award provides the recipient with a VCCS stole suitable for wearing with academic regalia and $5,000.
George B. Vaughan Leadership Award for Outstanding Adjunct Faculty
SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Awards (OFA)
The SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Awards (OFA) recognize excellence in teaching, research and service among the faculties of Virginia’s public and private colleges and universities. The VCCS is proud of the increasing numbers of community college faculty receive this award.
Excellence in Education (EIE) Awards
The Excellence in Education (EIE) Awards acknowledge the enhancement of student success within the VCCS. Nominations for 2020 will open soon. More information to come.
